Description
Photographer JENS JUUL:
Freelance photographer, fine arts professional. He lives and works in Denmark.
Finalist and winner of numerous photo contests since 2013.
Six Degrees of Copenhagen is a photographic portrait series photographer Jens Juul has worked on for the past 10 years.
The title of the project and the book refers to Six Degrees of Separation, which is the theory that all people are connected to each other through their networks and are never more than six degrees away from anyone on Earth. And with the human network as a working method, the idea has been to draw human connection lines through Copenhagen.
The people portrayed were unknown to the photographer. Subsequently, the person portrayed has recommended a person from their own circle of acquaintances, whereby the portrait baton has been passed on. By letting those portrayed pass the baton, the process, and the result have been manipulated as little as possible.
The project has won major international prizes, such as the Magnum Photography Award, Sony Photography Award, and International Photographer of the Year (IPOTY). Most recently, works from the series have won the main prize in the BBA Photography Prize.
